Learning Danish
People learn languages in different ways. Some people communicate effortlessly, while others prefer to master the grammar and pronunciation of a new language before beginning to speak it. There are many different approaches to learning a new language.
At Studieskolen we try to take different learning styles into consideration in our teaching. We do this by varying the way we work and teach in class, and by allowing you as a student to influence the choice of subjects, texts, and projects. This is primarily true of the intermediate and advanced classes, however. The beginner's classes are focused on teaching the basic skills and proficiency that everyone needs.
As a student at Studieskolen you take responsibility for and are aware of your own learning processes. You speak Danish outside of class and seek out opportunities to experience Danish language and culture. You bring your experiences and curiosity with you to class.
Only Danish spoken in class
Studieskolen's lessons are taught primarily in Danish at all levels. We believe it is very important for you as a student to practise listening to Danish at every stage of the learning process. This will help you develop the skill of being able to make an educated guess at the meaning of different words and expressions. This does not mean that the teacher will never explain a word in another language, but Danish is the primary language in the lessons.
Danish culture and society
Information about Danish culture is an integral part of the lessons. Some cultural information is naturally picked up when learning the language in authentic situations, for example how Danes speak to each other and what their relationships with each other are like.
In the lessons, you are also given specific information about Danish daily life, how Danes live and what they do.
